Coloring backgrounds in coloring books can be done so many ways and with multiple types of coloring instruments.

No matter which you choose, it’s a beautiful way to create a finished touch to your coloring page.

Recently one of my email subscribers mentioned that she’d like to learn more about using chalk pastels for backgrounds so I thought this would be a fun topic to explore.

I found a video by Peta Hewitt that shows a very simple method using pastels. It’s a 20-minute video but it’s got some great info and tips. I thought it was worth the time and I think you will too.

Another video I found is by CherTheFire. It’s 11 minutes long and shows several different ways to apply pastels using materials you probably already have at home.

I didn’t realize it at first, but this video is part of a series. I’ll share more about the other videos in a future post.
