For approximately the last year or so, I’ve been learning the ropes of creating coloring books, setting up a website and social media profiles, and preparing and publishing 2 books before the end of 2016. (There were a few other things in there too, but I figured I’d give you the short concise version!) 😉
Though I’m still a beginner (and will always be learning), I have big goals for 2017! I’d like to share a few of them with you so you know what’s kinds of things I’m planning.
My theme for 2017 is CREATIVITY. It’s my inspiration and part of the mission here.
Colorist Café’s purpose is to inspire and encourage coloring, creating and collaborating with other colorists like you. It’s where coloring enthusiast hang out and unite! Very simply, I break it down in my tagline or motto:
Color. Create. Collaborate.
Color. – Though we may live in different places, eat different foods, and have different health and stress issues, we all have a mutual love for coloring.
Having this mutual love usually means we never get enough coloring pages or supplies! So, I have plans to publish more books as well as a variety of singular pages this year. I’ve also mentioned on my About page that I plan to do other styles of coloring books beside grayscale books, so you’ll be seeing some of that this year.
I’ll continue to learn new coloring techniques and share what I find with you as well as any new or interesting tools, supplies or resources. HERE are a few I’ve already compiled for you. So let’s keep on coloring!
Create. – According to my college dictionary (yes, I’ll admit it’s a few years old), the definition of create is to cause to exist; originate. To bring about; produce.
The definition above doesn’t say anything about skill, does it?
That means anyone who’s interested can do it. It’s about the DOING—not the ability! 😀
Getting good at something takes practice, but no matter where your skill lies, our focus is more on the act or process of creating and the fun it brings.
When we color, there’s a fun process we go through. First, we thumb through rows of coloring books at a local book store or scroll through pages of Etsy’s digital designs looking for just the right coloring designs for our taste.
Once we purchase, there’s the process of choosing 1 of many favorite pages to get started on. And that’s not all. Colors. You must have the right color scheme!
And what about placement of the colors? They have to be just so, and if you shade and highlight that’s another process. Then there’s the background and final touches to be determined. Gel pens? Eye shadow?
These creative processes are enjoyable or we wouldn’t be doing them!
Once you’ve colored your beautiful design, you take a picture with your smart phone and post it to all the coloring groups you’re in. Your group-mates love it and you get likes and comments that make you feel really good, but then what?
Your colored pages stack up and either fill file folders or books that are stuffed on a shelf. Now what?
Well, we’d like to take it to the next level by suggesting what else might be created with all those coloring sheets.
We’re not suggesting you stop coloring at all! In fact, we don’t want to either!
We will, however, be showcasing some of the ideas we’ve come up with and will be sharing them with you! (We also want to know what you’ve come up with, which brings us to the final part of our tagline – collaborate!)
Collaborate. – The definition (loosely paraphrased from my dictionary) of collaboration is working together in joint effort, which is part of my mission, as I’ve mentioned above.
Colorist Café was created to be a gathering place, a community where people with a mutual enjoyment can gather together and discuss all things coloring, including how to take our finished coloring pages to the next level.
Join in! I want to collaborate with YOU!
I’ll be creating a group this year on Facebook where we’ll be able to collaborate and become a fun community of colorists. More on that soon, but I’d love to have you tell me what you’d like to see in a coloring group.
Coloring Enthusiasts Unite!
Won’t you join me in 2017 as we embark on another year of coloring, creating, and building lifelong friendships?!
Here’s to more coloring and creating!
P.S. Tell us in the comments what you’d like to see happening in a coloring group! Thanks!
